Thank you for taking the time to visit this site and see what it is all about. My name is Jesse and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I love thinking a lot about dating, relationships, and courtship. I also love to binge watch reality dating shows. I find the entire premise of them to be fascinating. It is very likely that if there is a reality show based on relationships I have probably seen it before. My secret is out, I know many of you may be shocked to hear this, but I am happy to finally come clean about my late night TV viewing.
Perhaps it was this fascination about how people interacted on these TV dating shows that ultimately drew me to this profession. This wasn’t something that is new either. I got hooked on these shows since I was a kid. I watched the Dating Game as a kid. I grew up in an era where MTV went from airing music videos to nothing but reality TV. Next and Room Raiders were shows I never missed. Date Story has a special place in my heart. I have even watched Temptation Island and the every version of lets marry a person I just me! I have since refined my pallet and moved on to such gems as Are you the One and pretty much anything made by the Bachelor franchise.
I am a pretty big fan. Until I moved I regularly hosted a small Bachelor viewing party at my house for myself and two wonderful friends, who also happen to be therapists too. We’d drink some champagne and talk about the show. I may have even had a giant whiteboard with a bracket with our picks. I’ve even been the only guy at a ladies viewing party. They were briefly skeptical, but I think I won them over with my knowledge of the franchise, and I brought champagne.
So this is a long way of saying I like reality dating shows, but I also like thinking about dating and relationships. I believe that these shows are fun to watch and think about, but I also believe there is a lot to learn about ourselves, the things we want in a partner, and they make us consider our own personal world of dating and relationships. So buckle up! I plan on taking us through reviews of various episodes from an entertaining lens and at times pose some serious thought about relationships.
